![]() ![]() Remember Conflict Catcher?! I sure do! Co-founder Robin Casady of Casady and Greene used to post in DPR. The Mac mini was previously owned by my relative who accidentally "broke" his mini and couldn't fix the problem. ![]() Even though this experience likely has more to do with Big Sur I'm just glad that I have a variety of data backups in case more had gone wrong with TM.īTW, my Mac Mini appears to be fine after around 5 hours doing installs and running different processes. ![]() After using TM more in the past year or so I became more comfortable with it and I hadn't recently run into any TM user horror stories. I've always been suspicious regarding Time Machine reliability so prior to this I relied on my cloned backups for restoration purposes. I would hate to have to deal with that issue, so I'm considering myself lucky as it could have been much worse. It looks like all of the user data made it over since my 1Password data, preferences, etc. Other than that, I could not locate any recent user reports but I did not peruse more than 2-3 pages of search hits.Īt this point I think that I will just manually reinstall apps vs. There were multiple reports of apps not being installed via TM for Big Sur Beta 2. When I did an Internet search last night the only reference to this problem was on the Apple developers forum. After opening TM the older backups are now accessible. When I was typing this, I realized that I had not checked to see how much data was in the TM folder. When I used Migration Assistant to move everything from a Time Machine backup only ONE third-party app made it to the Mini: the BlockBlock utility.Īnother issue: While all of the old Time Machine backups are listed, only the auto backups made after I did the migration were accessible yesterday. I'm just getting back to the forum because I ran into an issue yesterday afternoon after I returned home with the Mini. I agree with the Stop The Madness developer: In recent years the annual major OS "updates" have been problematic and it seems like Apple should be taking a lot more time between releases so they can get it right. Anyone remember the venerable Conflict Catcher? I really took my time adopting OS X but once I did I never looked back. FWIW, I haven't experienced anything remotely like this since my OS 7 days. Sorry to hear that you had so many problems. Reformatted that Mini maybe 5 or more times. Additionally the hard disk likely was failing too. I didn’t know about this and neither did my in law, the Mac Mini’s previous owner. I don’t know what the previous OS was before it was given to me. ![]() Going from Mojave to Big Sur could be why my Mac Mini was broken. Still Living and Learning at the tender age of 67! If I had one handy I could have remedied the situation myself. I had decided to forgo it because I haven't needed one for an emergency in 15 years. Next thing on my list: I'm going to configure a bootable clone for the 2018 Mini. The guy at the store told me that the bug is very rare but I'm not going to chance another $140 bill LOL. I just phoned the store and changed the order to Big Sur I can use my 2012 Mini to do what I need to do. I had told the tech to reinstall Mojave because I need to do a couple of minor things before I upgraded to Big Sur. I tried every possible fix but nothing worked. My 2018 Mini is currently in the shop because it got hosed during a routine software installation and became unbootable. ![]()
